Our Kiva Programme
March 3rd, 2009 by Susanna QueenBee

The Yarra Red Hatters decided to join Kiva with the aim of assisting women in much worse conditions than ourselves. Kiva does with micro loans starting at $25.

Each member is invited to join our Kiva team. You don’t have to make a loan straight away, there is no time pressure. You can choose your own person for your recipient of your micro loan if you wish, or just read about what we’re up to in Kiva.

Doan Thi Nhan, our Kiva project

Here’s our Group on Kiva

We have started with a loan to Doan Thi Nhan, in Vietnam, to buy more pigs and to repair her pigpen. (You can also lend to Doan to raise the $575 which she needs.)

Doan’s loan is managed through TYM

TYM stands for “Tao Yeu Mai” in Vietnamese, meaning “People loving People”. TYM Fund was founded in 1992 by the Vietnamese Womens’ Union in order to help implement the poverty alleviation programme of the Government.

During 15 years of operation, TYM Fund has contributed to the objective of the Vietnamese Womens’ Union of assisting women in economic development, improving womens’ living conditions and status and promoting gender equality in Vietnam. In this time, TYM Fund has assisted more than 40,000 women to overcome poverty and participate in community activities and management.

TYM Mission Statement : To improve the quality and life of poor women in rural areas by providing credit and savings to groups of fund members, creating favourable conditions for their participation in economic activities, and enhancing their role in society.
